The Janada L. Batchelor Foundation
for Children (JBFC) was founded by Mr.
Christopher W.
Gates in August of
2005. Currently, JBFC has its supporting organization, JBFC,
Inc. which oversees the JBFC-Kitongo project in northern
Tanzania. The project supports 23 children, caring for there
every need. In order to care for these children, JBFC employs 9
full-time staff and 4 part-time. There are 2 apartment style
dorms, a dining hall, 3 houses, a livestock area and a farm.
Plans are in place to start a school at the JBFC campus in 2009,
which would bring a higher quality education to our children.
JBFC was founded with a
vision by Chris to help alleviate a growing need of help for the
many orphans and street children, particularly girls, in
the area of Mwanza, Tanzania and its surrounding villages.
JBFC's aim is to provide such children with shelter, education,
healthcare, empowerment and nurturing in the name of Jesus
Christ. JBFC's first project, Kitongo, is well under way and is
serving as a girls' home and children's training center.
Currently, we are working with the social welfare office in
Tanzania to take in our first several girls.
The crisis is a real
situation, and one that must be addressed. Social welfare is
overflowing with kids who have no where to turn and the
streets are crowded with children who have no pillow to rest
their heads at night. If you just walk around the streets of
Mwanza for as little as five minutes, you are guaranteed to see
one of the many children that need our help.
