JBFC was founded in 2005 by Chris Gates, and worked diligently to find land and build a core staff to start the organization. In 2006, JBFC settled on the southern shores of Lake Victoria in a village called Kitongo (approximately 30 miles East of Mwanza).

Since that time, JBFC has been building annually, and to date has completed 3 staff/guest houses, 2 apartment-style dormitories, a dining hall, a primary school, and several farm and livestock structures. Most imporantly, it serves as the family to nearly 30 girls who would otherwise have no place to turn, providing them with everything from education and refuge to healthcare in a small, family-style environment.
